The leadership of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), and National Association of College of Education Students (NANCES) have declared a nationwide protest today, August 19th 2020 as the two weeks ultimatum given to the Federal Government to reopen campuses for academic activities has elapsed.
National President of NAPS, in person of comrade Adekanbi Sunday who address news men at the peaceful protest alongside concerned students said that students had stayed home for more than necessary.
Here is what Mr. Adekanbi said “we are here today to demand the reopening of our schools and campuses, it high time Federal government must realize that ASUU cannot dictate to them when to reopen schools, adding that "lecturers are at home doing nothing and yet are getting paid their salaries" so it is either they resume classes and work for their money with other entitlement or the federal government should stop paying their salaries.
If Areas like Markets and Places of Worship are allow to Function, Interstate lockdown is relax, Airport Flights both Domestic and International are back to business and other activities. Then why is still our schools closed????? PLEASE END THIS BASELESS EXCUSES AND STOP HINDERING OUR FUTURE.
Following the interview of the Minister of state for Education Mr. Chukwuemeka in a live discussion with PTF officials last night, dodged questions on reopening of schools and stammered off when asked if schools would reopen by sept 7.
In his word he use the phrase "THEY ARE STILL WORKING ON IT" and that the Fed Govt can’t just wake up one morning and announce a date for reopening amidst COVID19, without phases.
NANCES President, Mahmud Abubakar, speaking on the ongoing protest said “The agitation is still one, which is the re-opening of our campuses. We just want to hear from the Minister of Education, the date for resumption, as we are more open to the deadly Coronavirus at home than on campus, and an idle mind is the devil’s Workshop".
